Reeks Plastics
-
Vragen over plastics:

- SDG 3 (Good health and well-being): Farmaceutica of nutraceutica geïsoleerd uit mariene organismen (biodiscovery).
Versie 2
-
Marine biodiscovery: give one example for each of the following challenges: a. A market challenge b. A technical/supply challenge c. A biodiversity challenge
-
What is the mechanistic and environmental link between Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) and marine aerosols?
-
Eutrophication: a. Describe the process of eutrophication. b. How can eutrophication be measured/monitored? c. How does eutrophication affect human health?
-
How can an ecosystem experience a multiple stressor effect?
Versie 3
-
Give the 4 categories of ecosystem services and provide 2 marine examples for each category.
-
Give all environmental and human factors that have negative effects on wild fish populations.
-
Explain the balance between nutritionality and toxicology regarding fish consumption.
-
Major ocean pollution categories: a. Give the major ocean pollution categories and their primary sources. b. Describe the effects on human health as discussed in the paper by Landrigan et al.
-
What are the environmental impacts of deep-sea mining on marine ecosystems?

Examen 2021-2022
Versie 1
-
Seaweed is an increasingly consumed food source. Describe two positive effects regarding oceans and human health.
-
Toxicity and biodiscovery are often very tightly connected. Here, the same methods can be used, where some will try to prove negative health effects whereas others try to prove beneficial health effects. This is for instance the case with sea spray aerosols (SSA), explain.
Deel Prof. Colin Janssen:
-
The 17 SDGs were given: a. Describe one SDG (different from SDG 14: Life below water). b. What ocean ecosystem services contribute to achieving this SDG? c. What human activities affect this ocean service and thus limit the effect of the service on reaching the SDG? d. Link one human activity along with its consequences to a planetary boundary.
-
Describe how the production of acetaldehyde in the 1950s contributed to weird cat behavior and affected fish consumption (Minamata disease).
Mondeling:
Het mondeling ging over je project. Was totaal niet moeilijk.
Versie 2
- Supporting ecosystem services: Water current and sediment transport, nutrient cycling, water cycling, larvae/gamete supply, habitats for species, food web.
- Provisioning ecosystem services: Genetic resources, energy, stocks (fish and shellfish), sand and gravel, harvestable seaweed.
- Cultural ecosystem services: Tourism and recreation, knowledge, wildlife watching, art and creativity, spirituality, seascapes, health and well-being.
- Regulating ecosystem services: Carbon storage, storm protection, waste breakdown and detoxification, climate and temperature regulation, sediment stabilisation.
-
(Zie vraag over Minamata)
Versie 3
- Provisioning:
- Genetic resources: pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals
- Energy: usage of shell (long-term carbon storage)
- Stocks: food production, possible feed for livestock
- Supporting:
- Sediment transport: keeping sediment in place
- Nutrient cycling: supports it by accretion of sediment
- Water cycling: filter feeders
- Habitats for species: hard substrate, shelter (e.g. seastars in mollusks)
- Food web: food source for other species
- Kies een planetary boundary en "explain the effects on oceans and the results of those effects on human health".
- Hoe komen chemicaliën in de oceaan terecht? Geef 2 manieren/routes.
- Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs): a.
Versie 4
- Zeewier: a.
- Supporting ecosystem service: provides a habitat for various marine species.
- Provisioning ecosystem service: provides food, namely harvestable seaweed and biomass.
